For the sake of Health, replace the Salt with Lemon

Recommended salt intake per person per day is 2000 milligrams, or about one teaspoon. But, most people consume far more every day. In small amounts, salt is needed to regulate the water content in the body. If excessive salt can actually cause hypertension by stroke. But, what about the taste of food if you only use a little salt?

The American Heart Association recommends cooking with lemon, vinegar, or other spices to reduce the amount of salt required as a flavor enhancer.

But Sunkist Growers and researchers from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, found the key to reducing the salt content in the home cooking can be as simple as adding lemon or potonganlemon in the dish.

Researchers asked the chef to create a recipe using chicken, fish, beef, vegetables, soups, salads, and grains.

They control the amount of sodium in a meal by using 30 percent less salt, 50 percent less salt, 75 percent less salt, and no salt, then add varying amounts of lemon or lemon for every dish.

Apparently, consumers prefer a dish with a 75 percent reduction in salt when eating vegetables, reduction of 50 percent for fish dishes, and salad dressings, as well as a 30 percent reduction for the dish of chicken, beef, grains and soups.

"The results of this study indicate, linking taste and health sometimes need to be made difficult," said the Global Master Chef Karl Guggenmos, WACS, AAC, from Johnson & Wales in a statement.

Reducing your salt intake can keep your blood pressure, overall heart health and ideal weight.
